Educational only
SideTax is a free educational tool. Nothing on this Site constitutes tax advice, legal advice, accounting advice, or financial advice. The calculator and guides are designed to help you understand UK tax rules at a general level, not to be a substitute for professional advice tailored to your circumstances.
Not regulated
SideTax is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and does not provide regulated services. We do not file Self Assessment returns, prepare statutory accounts, or represent clients before HMRC.
What the calculator does and does not cover
The calculator uses HMRC's published rates and rules for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 tax years (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and applies them to typical side hustle situations. It does not cover:
- Scottish income tax bands (rates differ from rest of UK)
- Capital gains tax
- Inheritance tax
- VAT registration nuance and reverse charge mechanics
- Marriage allowance transfers
- Blind person's allowance
- Student loan deductions
- High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC)
- Pension contribution tax relief and annual allowance
- Gift Aid
- Foreign income, double-taxation treaties, or non-domiciled status
- Limited company corporation tax and dividends
- IR35 intermediaries legislation
- Capital allowances on vehicles or unusual assets
- Specific HMRC concessions or extra-statutory practice
Accuracy and updates
UK tax rules change every year, sometimes mid-year. We make reasonable efforts to keep the Site accurate but make no guarantee. You should verify the current rates on gov.uk and consult a qualified accountant before making decisions or filing a return that relies on the calculator's output.
No liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SideTax accepts no liability for any underpayment, overpayment, penalty, interest charge, or other loss arising from reliance on the Site. Use of the Site is at your own risk.
When to consult a professional

- You have undeclared income from past years and need to make a disclosure
- You've received an HMRC enquiry or assessment
- You're emigrating, immigrating, or living abroad part of the year
- You hold cryptoassets, complex investments, or business interests
